VIV ALBERTINE – on To Throw Away Unopened.
How far can we tell our own story? How do we distinguish truth from longings? Why does love bring as much pain as it does joy? How do families work, at their best and worst? And what about relationships? What part do music, art, self expression and humour play in a full, free and meaningful life?
Former songwriter and guitarist in post-Punk band The Slits, film actor and director, with a solo album and book- of-the-year memoir to her name, Viv Albertine now has a new book, To Throw Away Unopened. It is a fearless dissection of one woman’s search for truths, about family, power, intimacy, love and her identity as rebel and outsider. It’s full of tough truths, neatly side-stepping prissy propriety and is written with insight, wit and wisdom.
