The High Sheriff of Wiltshire Presents

Uncelebrated Journey

Wyvern Theatre

Sat 6 October

The High Sheriff of Wiltshire Presents
SHOW INFORMATION

The High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Nicky Alberry presents a one-off spectacular performance which celebrates Swindon and its journey.

A clever mix of newly commissioned dance and orchestral works, along with well-known pieces, are all performed by talented Swindon artists, some returning to the town specially to take part.

This story of Swindon, and Swindon folk, is told through the eyes of ‘The Hammerman Poet’ – Alfred Williams, a poet and author born in 1877, into poverty.

Working in the harsh conditions of the Great Western Railway works, he later served his country in WW1 and became enraptured by India, a culture that influenced him for the rest of his days.

The performance will feature an eclectic mix of dance, music and film, and will pave the journey from the early days of Alfred’s life to a grand celebration of the diverse modern-day town we call home.

Performers will include:
Rachael Gillespie and Ashley Dixon by permission of Northern Ballet Theatre
Paul Turner and Caroline Dale
Ten in a Bar
The Janice Thompson Singers
Wessex Male Voice Choir
Swindon Choral Society
Swindon Dance Centre for Advanced Training
Judith Hockaday School of Dance
SAPAC of Swindon
Narration by Prime Theatre

and new comissioned work comes from:

Helen Ganberg from Swerve Dance Theatre Company
