Frequently Asked Questions
All applicants who have submitted a form will be invited to audition. The auditions will be held on Sunday 3 March 2019 at the Wyvern Theatre, Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN. Completed forms should be returned to the Theatre – the address is Nyree Kingsbury, Project Co-Ordinator, SYP 2019, Wyvern Theatre, Theatre Square SN1 1QN or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
. Please don’t forget to attach a recent photo to your application form. All forms should be returned by Friday 22 February 2019 (not made it in time? Don't worry just get your form in ASAP before auditions on Sun 3 March though be aware that your audition group may be at the end of the day as your details won't be in the system yet).
Callbacks for Principal roles will be announced on the day. There is no charge for the audition, and no previous experience is necessary. If you/your child are/is chosen as a Principal for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang there will be some rehearsals prior to Project that you/they will need to attend – these will be scheduled in the week prior to the start of SYP. These dates will be confirmed nearer the time.
You must be 9 - 21 (or 16 - 26 for technical participants) on or before 11 August 2019 to be eligible for this Project. There can be no exceptions made on the age restrictions.

If you/your child(ren) are required to stay for callbacks they will be notified as soon as possible. If they do not have a mobile we will call their parents etc as soon as we can to let them know what is happening.
END - At this moment in time we do not know what time it will finish as the creative team will need to make their decisions following the auditions. We will keep the auditionees updated as best we can.
Please note, only auditionees are allowed into the auditorium. Parents/families/friends are welcome to wait in the upper foyer area. Please make sure that you bring water and snacks (should you need them) as you may have to wait around. As you will be required to dance and move, please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
WHAT TO PREPARE: Please see below which songs the Musical Director has asked the auditionees to prepare and his notes.
ALL: CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG - Remember to focus on the story of the song as well as sound quality.
MALE PRINCIPAL: Those interested in a male lead will need to look at both YOU TWO and HUSHABYE MOUNTAIN.
FEMALE PRINCIPAL: Those interested in a female lead will need to look at THE BOMBIE SAMBA and DOLL ON A MUSIC BOX.
JEREMY & JEMIMA: Those interested in a Juvenile lead (Jeremy and Jemima) need to look at TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS.
Technical interviews will also take place on 3 March 2019 – you will be contacted by the SYP Technical Coordinator David Jell to arrange a specific time for you to come in. Please note, the age for Technical participants is 16 and above. You will have an informal chat with a member of our technical team. If selected you could be involved in various aspects of putting the show together, including lighting, sound, set, props, follow spots, wardrobe, etc. The fee for the Technical participants is the same as for onstage participants. The decisions of the Production Team on the day are final and unfortunately we cannot enter into further discussion or correspondence about them.
PROJECT DATES, TIMES & OTHER INFORMATION
Project runs from Sun 11 August – Sat 24 August 2019. You must be available for all these days. Because of the short production and rehearsal time you have to be fully committed to the show for the whole period. All auditionees will be informed by the beginning of May whether they have been successful or not; to confirm your place a £10 deposit will be required which must be returned by the beginning of May (NB. The deposit is non-refundable). The fee for SYP will be £170 which includes a Project T-shirt, all the tuition, rehearsals and performances for the 2 weeks – the deposit will be deducted from the fee total. All payments must be returned to the Theatre by FRIDAY 28 JUNE 2019. Please note, once paid and Project has started, the fees are non-refundable.
The Wyvern Foundation is a charity that has been set up to advance the education and training of children and young people in Swindon and the surrounding areas by their participation and involvement with all aspects of the performing arts. The Foundation supports the Summer Youth Project by providing bursaries (50% of the fee). If you feel you could benefit from receiving help from the Foundation, you can apply for funding when the place has been confirmed.
We are always looking for licensed Chaperones or those with a DBS certificate that would like to become a chaperone, to help with the Summer Youth Project. If you are interested please contact Nyree as soon as possible (see contact details below).
These usually start at 10am and continue all day with a break for lunch, and a dinner break when evening rehearsals are required. Towards the end of the Project finishing times of later than10pm are to be expected.
The performances will take place from Thursday 22 August – Saturday 24 August 2019. Tickets are on sale now.
